Venue and Hosts

For the 2026 SBNS Spring Meeting we are joining forces with the British Neurosurgical Research Group (BNRG) which is run by the SBNS Academic Committee.  The meeting will be led by the SBNS Meetings Secretary, Samantha Hettige and the BNRG Lead, Stephen Price.  In addition to the subspecialty sessions this will be an excellent opportunity for clinicians and researchers to get together to present and discuss their work and future combined projects.

The chosen venue is the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate in North Yorkshire.   It is an impressive landmark hotel which has recently been refurbished and has excellent accommodation and conference facilities which makes it the ideal choice - everything under one roof!   For further details and booking information please click on the Registration and Accommodation tab.

On Tuesday, 14 April the  British Neurosurgical Trainees Association (BNTA) and the British Neurosurgical Trainee Research Collaborative (BNTRC) will be hosting a pre-meeting symposium entitled  “Designing Research Studies and Obtaining Funding”.   An excellent opportunity for those interested in research to find out the best way to start and to fund their research projects.  All are welcome to attend.

The Main Meeting runs from 15-17 April. The Lifelong Learning Session on Wednesday morning will be on “Getting Research and New Innovations into Clinical Practice”.  This session should be of interest to all working in the neurosurgical environment at all levels.   We all know how important it is to put our new discoveries in to practice, knowing that these will not only improve outcomes for our patients,  but also make our clinical practices run more efficiently.

The remainder of the programme will cover all aspects of neurosurgery. We have a great line up of esteemed UK and international speakers, free paper sessions, breakfast seminars and much more, all carefully designed to create a unique and enjoyable educational experience.  More details will be posted in the Programme tab once the academic programme has been finalised.

Abstracts are welcome on all neurosurgery related topics.  The lines close on 15th December and notification of acceptance will be emailed to the presenting author mid-January 2026.

To accompany the academic programme, we have two wonderful social events planned. A Welcome Reception on Wednesday 15th April at the Coldbath Brewery and Tap Room and a Gala Dinner on Thursday 16 April at The Royal Hall, a Grade II listed theatre in the heart of this famous Spa Town. Please click on the Social Events tab for more details.

Please visit the Harrogate Event page regularly in the lead up to the conference as it will be updated as the programme develops.

Exhibition

An extensive exhibition will be held throughout the meeting with numerous neurosurgical companies exhibiting their latest products and innovations.  Several neuro related charities will also have stands in the exhibition.  Please take time to visit the stands during the meeting.  The SBNS are very grateful for the support of our sponsors.

If you wish to exhibit or sponsor the event please click on the Sponsors Tab for more information.

We would appreciate our members and delegates actively promoting this event on social media in the lead up to meeting to encourage attendance and, during the meeting, to show your appreciation of the talks and the event.

The SBNS and the BNRG look forward to welcoming you all to Harrogate in April.
SBNS Code of Conduct
In April 2024 the SBNS Launched its Code of Conduct for SBNS Meetings  - The Three Principles of Prevention - ST.O.P

1. STay Professional

Don’t use your status to influence/implicitly coerce the vulnerable or more junior

Do not use conferences/educational events as opportunities to seek sexual gratification

Consider your conduct around/after SBNS events, remembering that you represent our society and its values, for example wearing societal identification in public venues

Consider how it may be interpreted if you are photographed/witnessed when you are on study/professional leave

Remember, alcohol is the most common date rape drug – be safe; don’t misuse it

2. Open Your Eyes

Are you blind to your own inappropriate actions?

Are you ignoring poor behaviour in others?

3. Protect Each Other

“Check in” - If you see inappropriate e.g. creepy/sleazy behaviour, and you feel able to do so, ask the “recipient” if they are OK
“Call it out” - If you see inappropriate e.g. creepy/sleazy behaviour, and you feel able to do so, inform the “perpetrator” they are being
e.g. creepy/sleazy, e.g. if it is a friend of yours or someone you know
