For the 2026 SBNS Spring Meeting we are joining forces with the British Neurosurgical Research Group (BNRG) which is run by the SBNS Academic Committee.
The meeting will be led by the BNRG Lead, Stephen Price, and SBNS Vice President for Research, Impact and Innovation Prof. Michael Jenkinson. It will be an excellent opportunity for clinicians and researchers to get together to present and discuss their work and future combined projects. The theme of the meeting is ’Neurosurgery research: from hypothesis to implementation’.
The chosen venue is the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate in North Yorkshire. It is an impressive landmark hotel which has recently been refurbished and has excellent accommodation and conference facilities which makes it the ideal choice - everything under one roof! For further details and booking information please click on the Registration and Accommodation tab.
On Tuesday, 14 April the British Neurosurgical Trainees Association (BNTA) and the British Neurosurgical Trainee Research Collaborative (BNTRC) will be hosting a pre-meeting symposium entitled
“Designing Research Studies and Obtaining Funding”. It will cover research methodology, including how to develop a hypothesis, design a clinical trial and grant writing skills. An excellent opportunity for those interested in research to find out the best way to start and to fund their projects. All are welcome to attend.
The Main Meeting runs from 15-17 April. The Lifelong Learning Session on Wednesday morning will be on “Getting Research and New Innovations into Clinical Practice”. This session should be of interest to all working in the neurosurgical environment at all levels. We all know how important it to implement our research findings into routine clinical practice, it can improve outcomes for our patients and make our clinical practices run more efficiently.
The remainder of the programme will cover all aspects of neurosurgery. We have a great line up of esteemed UK and international speakers, free paper sessions, breakfast seminars and much more, all carefully designed to create a unique and enjoyable educational experience. More details will be posted in the Programme tab once the academic programme has been finalised.
We are inviting abstracts from neurosurgeons, allied specialities and professionals as well as industry partners on research in development and in progress as well as general neurosurger papers on a variety of topics. Each session will be themed around a sub-specialty discipline and focused on the major unanswered clinical research questions - with the hope that we can develop future studies! The lines close on 15th December and notification of acceptance will be emailed to the presenting author mid-January 2026.
To accompany the academic programme, we have two wonderful social events planned. A Welcome Reception on Wednesday 15th April at the Coldbath Brewery and Tap Room and a Gala Dinner on Thursday 16 April at The Royal Hall, a Grade II listed theatre in the heart of this famous Spa Town. Please click on the Social Events tab for more details.
Please visit the Harrogate Event page regularly in the lead up to the conference as it will be updated as the programme develops.
An extensive exhibition will be held throughout the meeting with numerous neurosurgical companies exhibiting their latest products and innovations. Several neuro related charities will also have stands in the exhibition. Please take time to visit the stands during the meeting. The SBNS are very grateful for the support of our sponsors.
